The shovel’s in the ground for the Friendship Reading Garden being built at Boston Valley Elementary, adjacent to a picnic shelter and raised garden beds on the school grounds. When complete, the 20’x20’ garden will become a tranquil setting for teaching and learning, particularly literacy skills and a love of reading. It will include walkways and plantings, with seating to accommodate a class, as well as more intimate spaces for reading. Pace Landscaping is doing the initial site prep, then other features will be added as the project moves forward. The catalyst for this garden was an approximate $4,000 grant from Lowe’s Toolbox for Education. Community fund raising is also supporting the project.
