Hamburg Central School District

Veterans’ Day will be a little sweeter for those wounded while serving the country thanks to candy care packages from Hamburg Middle School students. Led by the Student Council, the school last week collected Halloween candy donations for “Treats for Troops.” Then some 30 students assembled the care packages, which will be given to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo and Operation Backbone in Florida for service men and women undergoing rehabilitation. Teachers Amy Steger and Carolyn Durni oversaw the project, which was suggested by parent Leilon Duff, whose daughter Izzy is a Middle School sixth grader. Mrs. Duff called the project a “small gesture that makes a huge impact.”
